Yemen government condemns Iran over Houthi weapon supplies

RIYADH: Yemen’s government condemned Iran for supplying the Houthis with weapons and ballistic missiles on Thursday, a day after the US said it had seized guided missile parts heading to the country.

Yemen’s government added that it would not allow the country to be used for “Iranian projects” that threatened international navigation and destabilized the security and stability of neighboring countries.

US officials said Wednesday that the USS Forrest Sherman last week seized a “significant cache” of suspected Iranian guided missile parts from a small ship in the northern Arabian Sea.

The weapons have been linked to Iran, the officials said.

Houthis have used ballistic missiles to repeatedly target Saudi Arabia during the conflict in Yemen.

The Yemeni government said peace would not be achieved in Yemen as long as Iran continued with such aggressive behavior.
