PM Khan to meet Trump in Davos

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan left for Switzerland on Tuesday to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) which is set to take place in Davos from January 21 to 23, the PM Office said in a statement released on Tuesday.

It added that he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the forum. “These include the prime minister’s meeting with US President Donald Trump,” excerpts from the statement said, adding that it would be the third leadership-level interaction between Pakistan and the US since Khan’s visit to Washington in July last year.

PM Khan is visiting Davos on the invitation of Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the WEF.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razaq Dawood, PM Khan’s special assistants Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and Dr. Moeed Yusuf will be accompanying the premier on his visit.

The statement further highlighted two key aspects of Khan’s visit to Davos which include a keynote address during a special session at the WEF, in addition to his interaction with CEOs and corporate leaders at the Pakistan Strategy Dialogue meet.

Khan’s visit on Tuesday follows the release of Time Magazine’s cover which features the Pakistani premier alongside four other world leaders in the publication’s special edition of the WEF.This year marks the 50th anniversary of the WEF. Khan’s office said that in keeping with the significance of this milestone, political leaders, business executives, heads of international organizations and civil society representatives will deliberate on contemporary economic, geopolitical, social and environmental issues.

“Several meetings are also scheduled with a wide range of corporate, business, technology and finance executives, and representatives of international financial institutions,” according to the official handout.

Khan will also speak to senior international media persons and editors during a session with the Forum’s International Media Council.
Throughout his engagements at Davos, the premier will “share Pakistan’s vision and achievements in the areas of economy, peace & stability, trade, business and investment opportunities,” his office.
“He will also highlight the current situation in the Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan’s perspective on key regional and international issues,” the statement read.
