Coronavirus: Hotels, guesthouses in galiyat area sealed for violating lockdown rules

The Galiyat Development Authority and Abbottabad district administration, in a joint operation on Friday, sealed around 15 hotels and guesthouses in the galiyat for violating lockdown measures put in place to curb the coronavirus epidemic. It is pertinent to mention that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has imposed a complete ban on entry of tourists to Nathiagali, Dongagali, Baragali, Ayubia and other hill stations, which are collectively known as the galiyat. Speaking to The News, Deputy Commissioner Mughees Sanaullah said that the tourists have been warned of stern action in case of any violation, particularly during the Eid ul Adha holidays.
Sanaullah said that around 15 hotels were fined and two hotels and guesthouses were sealed, while four persons were sent to jail for flouting lockdown rules.On Thursday, the Abbottabad administration and GDA had imposed a 24-hour deadline for tourists to vacate all hotels and rest-houses in the area. According to the deputy commissioner, the action was taken against the hotels and rest-houses or violating the government’s orders and there will be periodic checks in the area until the ban is lifted. Urging tourists to respect the law, the official warned of strict action in case of violation and advised hotel owners to cooperate and join hands with the government to battle the coronavirus pandemic and ensure the safety of the people.
