Virtual event hosted by Joe Biden features rendition of Faiz's 'Hum Dekhenge'

A virtual event of the Democrat Party targeted at Pakistani Americans featured a rendition of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s ‘Hum Dekheinge'. Joe Biden, who is gearing up to challenge US President Donald Trump for the presidency this November, hosted the 90-minute session that recognized influential Pakistani Americans. It was held on August 14 and was the first event of its kind by a major US political party. Faiz's iconic poem was played at the end of the meeting. The virtual meet-up was indicative of the importance attached by the Democratic Party to the Pakistani diaspora. "Pakistani Americans are on the frontlines of American life –– as healthcare workers/medical professionals, engineers, educationists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and small business owners," read a press release on the event. "As the US heads into the most consequential election of its lifetime with the entire world watching it, the Pakistani-American community will play a key role in states that really matter across the country. "The Independence Day event served as a platform to mobilize Pakistani Americans in support of Biden," it added.  The event featured National Director of Coalitions at Biden for President Ashley Allison, Karachi-born actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani, former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, AAPI Victory Fund co-founder and convener Dilawar Syed, author and journalist Wajahat Ali, Assistant Professor at Mt Sinai Health System Dr. Danish Ahmad, Senior Director for Special Pathogens at New York City Dr. Syra Madad, who is a regular feature on US national TV network, Democratic Nominee Virginia's 1st Congressional District Qasim Rashid, Skokie School Board Elected Official Bushra Amiwala, tech executive Faraz Iqbal, CEO of Pragmatism Consulting Group Haris Ahmed, Deputy Organizing Director of Emgage Action Aysha Ahmed, Texas State Director at South Asians for Biden Omair Mirza, and Sunshine Sachs Account Manager Zaina Javaid. Participants agreed that picking Senator Kamala Harris, a person of Black and South Asian descent, as his running mate, is reflective of the diversity that Biden believes in bringing to all spheres of American life and stands to motivate many more of various backgrounds to get involved in American politics for better representation.
