The US designates Myanmar military takeover a coup

The United States has designated the military takeover in Myanmar as a coup. During a briefing, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the United States is deeply concerned by the Burmese military’s detention of civilian government leaders, including State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.

Meanwhile, Rohingya refugees say they condemn the military coup in Myanmar but do not “feel sorry” for de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s removal from power. Talking to media at a refugee camp in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar, Rohingya community leader Mohammad Yunus Arman said the Myanmar military had killed our families in Rakhine state while Aung San Suu Kyi was in power and she remained silent about it.

Another Rohingya community leader at Thaingkhali camp, Sayed Ullah expressed fear that their repatriation process would be further stalled after the military coup.
