World leaders pledge to redouble pandemic fight at special APEC meeting

World leaders have pledged to redouble the fight against COVID-19 by expanding trade and manufacturing vaccines for the pandemic. In a joint statement after special  Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation virtual meeting chaired by New Zealand, leaders of the Asia-Pacific trade group APEC, including US President Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, said they will encourage the voluntary transfer of vaccine production technologies on mutually agreed terms as the region prepared for future health shocks. They said we will only overcome this health emergency by accelerating equitable access to safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable COVID-19 vaccines.
