More than 600,000 cases of the new Coronavirus have been officially recorded around the world since the outbreak of the epidemic. There are 605,010 cases of infection with about 28,000 deaths in 183 countries and territories. The United States had 104,837 cases of which 1,711 were fatal. Italy had the highest number of deaths at 9,134 and a total of 86,498 cases. In Iran, 139 more people died from the novel Coronavirus during the last 24 hours raising the official death toll to 2,517. A Health ministry spokesman told a news conference that 3,076 more cases have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 35,408. In Spain, the death toll from Coronavirus surged over 5,600 today after a record 832 people died in 24 hours, and the number of infections soared over 72,000.
Spain has the world's second-highest Coronavirus death toll after Italy. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has warned that the European Union will lose its purpose if it fails to come up with a strong response to the Coronavirus threat.In a statement today, he said if Europe does not rise to this unprecedented challenge, the whole European structure loses its raison d'etre to the people. The World Health Organization has welcomed G-20 countries for their commitment to help the world in tackling the novel Corona virus pandemic. At a press conference in Geneva , WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus said the biggest challenge facing countries in containing the pandemic is the lack of personal protective equipment for health care providers. He said that the organization has sent two million kits to 74 countries and will send the same number to 60 other countries. He stressed the importance of the international solidarity and cooperation to overcome this problem.
